Funded Research Activities

Three new pilot research projects submitted by VISN 4 investigators have been recommended for funding from the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP), a VA HSR&D Center of Innovation.  These one-year projects focus on improving equity and/or quality in health and health care among Veterans. Awards are anticipated to begin in FY19, contingent upon availability of funding from VISN4.

Congratulations to:

• Leslie Hausmann, PhD,  Determining the Feasibility of Using Natural Language Processing to Identify Source of Patient Perceptions of Discrimination from Provider Notes
• Lena Makaroun, MD, MS, Describing Characteristics and Identifying Potential Risk Factors for Older Veterans Who May be Experiencing Abuse or Neglect
• Ravi Parikh, MD, MPP, Disparities in Treatment Patterns and Survivorship Care Among Veterans with Advanced Prostate Cancer

A key goal of the HSR&D funded Center of Innovation (COIN) program is for all Centers to support research leading to improvements in the care of vulnerable populations. The Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) has a critical mass of multidisciplinary investigators with specialized expertise in the field of health equity. Details of CHERP Investigators' current funded research activites are listed below.
