CHERP COIN Investigator

Co-Director, VA CHERP
Attending Physician, Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center
Professor of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine
Director of Research, Penn's Leonard Davis Institute

Profile

Dr. Groeneveld's research is focused on the comparative effectiveness, clinical outcomes, economics, and social consequences of health care technology, with a particular focus in cardiovascular disease. A central aim of his research is to improve the value of high-technology healthcare by illuminating opportunities to expand the use of technology in settings where it can provide substantial health benefits relative to cost, and by identifying instances of technology overuse. An additional aim is to enhance the equity of the U.S. healthcare system by demonstrating how the increasing complexity and cost inherent in many new technologies can worsen long-established disparities in health care quality between white and minority patients.

Dr. Groeneveld is a former VA HSR&D Research Career Development Awardee, and he has been the PI on research funded by the VA, NIH, AHRQ, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He has co-authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Groeneveld is a primary care physician at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center (CMCVAMC), and he also Chairs the CMCVAMC Research and Development Committee. He is Professor of Medicine, with tenure, at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and of the American Heart Association, and he is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation.
