Katherine M. Reitz, MD, MSc, is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a vascular surgeon at both the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) and UPMC. Dr. Reitz is a surgeon scientist whose research focuses on improving outcomes for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD), particularly among Veterans. Her work centers on optimizing medical therapy following lower extremity revascularization, with a specific emphasis on antithrombotic treatment strategies to balance limb salvage and cardiovascular protection against bleeding risks. She uses large-scale VA and national datasets to conduct comparative effectiveness research as she works towards improving patient outcomes with prospective investigations. Her research has been published in leading journals including JAMA Surgery, JAMA Cardiology, and Annals of Surgery, and she has received multiple national awards recognizing her contributions to surgical research and education.
