Erin M. Bayley, MD, MSc is a Staff Surgeon at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System and Affiliate Investigator in CHERP. Additionally, Dr. Bayley is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Department of Surgery, Division of Breast Surgical Oncology. She has ongoing collaborations with members of the VA Breast and Gynecologic Surgery System of Excellence, as well as VA Center for Oncology Outcomes Review and Gender Equity (COURAGE) and serves as Vice Chair of the Research Committee for the Association of VA Hematology/Oncology. Dr. Bayley has established strong scientific partnerships with collaborators in VA in the fields of women's health, value-based care, clinical genetics, and healthcare delivery across complex medical systems, which have been instrumental to the success of her work.

Dr. Bayley’s research program focuses on improving access to and delivery of guideline-concordant multidisciplinary breast cancer care for Veterans in the Veterans Health Administration, with an emphasis on de-implementation of low-value surgical care. She has co-authored over 80 total publications (nearly half as first or senior author, H-index 27), primarily in health services oncology research. These efforts have been recognized through several national research awards, including from NRG Oncology, the Society of Surgical Research, and the Surgical Outcomes Club. Dr. Bayley is an instructor for the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Academy, mentoring high school students interested in a career in medicine. Additionally, she has mentored several fellows, residents, and students who have gone on to present nationally and publish in relevant surgical journals.
