Said Ibrahim, MD, MPH, featured in BoneSmart.org video:
“Severe joint pain is treatable.”

Millions of Americans with severe osteoarthritis are afraid of or unaware of their treatment options for  knee and hip disabilities.  African Americans have a higher risk for osteoarthritis and a significantly lower rate of joint replacement surgery, resulting in limited mobility and other effects.    The Foundation for the Advancement of Research in Medicine (FARM) featured CHERP’s Said Ibrahim, MD, MPH in a video to promote their Diversity Initiative.  The web-based campaign, BoneSmart.org, aims to help reach underserved minority patients to raise awareness of joint replacement as a viable treatment option to improve mobility and relieve debilitating pain.

Dr. Ibrahim has led ground-breaking research into racial disparities in access to and utilization of joint replacement for the management of osteoarthritis, supported by VA HSR&D, and is currently the principal investigator of two projects focused on interventions to reduce or eliminate racial disparities in the care and management of osteoarthritis.

BoneSmart.org also features the voices of joint replacement patients who want to spread the word about their own experiences with the surgery and its results.
