Patient-Centered Care for Interpersonal Violence
VA-Funded Research in Patient-Centered Care for Interpersonal Violence (IPV) was highlighted at AcademyHealth’s Annual Research Meeting in June 2014 by a panel of VA experts, including CHERP’s Melissa Dichter, MSW, PhD. Chaired by Rachel Kimerling of VA Palo Alto Health Care System, the panel included these speakers and topics:
• Melissa Dichter, Philadelphia VA Medical Center and Katherine Iverson, VA Boston Healthcare System: “Veteran and Provider Preferences for IPV Screening and Counseling Procedures Within VA”
• Rachel Kimerling, VA Palo Alto Health Care System: “IPV and Military Sexual Trauma: Access and Quality of Mental Health Care among Women VHA Users”
• Anne Sadler, Iowa City VAMC: “On-line Interventions to Facilitate Post-deployment Care of Servicewomen Reporting Military Sexual Trauma, IPV, and Other Mental Health Concerns”
VA-funded research elucidates key issues in intimate partner violence (IPV) screening, building on the system’s patient-centered medical home and universal screening for sexual violence. Current projects address Veteran perspectives, eHealth, mental health, and engagement with care. Study results inform screening and treatment within and outside VA.
