Advanced Postdoctoral Fellowship Opportunities



The VA Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion has two sites, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

CHERP Philadelphia offers one postdoctoral program, in health services research.

CHERP Pittsburgh offers three distinct postdoctoral programs, in health services, women's health, and medication safety and outcomes.

In Philadelphia 

Health Services Research:

CHERP's Advanced Fellowship in Health Services Research is designed for post-doctoral investigators and physicians who have some research experience and would like to pursue a career with the VA.  The focus areas at this CHERP fellowship site are health equity and behavioral economics.  If you'd like to apply to the Philadelphia site, download the application for Philadelphia-based fellowship in health services research, save the file and complete it, then email the application and your CV to vhaphicherpfellowship@va.gov.  Deadline for submission is December 13, 2019.  CHERP Philadelphia Fellowship Application FormLink to more information.


In Pittsburgh


Health Services Research:

CHERP's Advanced Fellowship in Health Services Research is designed for post-doctoral investigators and physicians who have some research experience and would like to pursue a career with the VA.  The focus areas at this CHERP Fellowship site are health equity and the evaluation of effectiveness, safety and value of clinical therapeutics.  If you'd like to apply to the Pittsburgh site, please send a cover letter and your current CV to:  vhaphicherpfellowship@va.gov  Link to more info.


Women's Health Research:

A two-year program affliated with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)/University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. This track prepares physicians and doctoral level non-physicians for an academic resarch career with a focus on evaluating delivery and quality of care for women Veterans.  Link.


Pharmacy Fellowship in Medication Safety and Outcomes:

Partnered with the VA Pharmacy Benefits Management Services (PBM), this two-year fellowship in Pittsburgh prepares doctoral level pharmacists to become (1) independent practitioners with expertise in medication safety and (2) independent investigators with expertise in pharcoepidemiology, outcomes research, and systematic quality improvment that contributes to quality, safety, effectiveness and value of medication therapy.  Link.
